Love Calculator

Just for fun: type two names and get a love score worked out the way it was done in the back of school notebooks — by counting the letters L, O, V, E and S in both names. You also get a FLAMES result. It is a word game, not a compatibility test, and the same two names always give the same answer.

Quick examples

Order does not matter. Only letters count; accents are ignored.

Your numbers stay in your browser. They are never uploaded.
Love score (just for fun)98%

A letter-counting game, not a prediction. Names say nothing about a relationship.

      Formula

Count how many times L, O, V, E and S appear in the two names together
      Add each pair of neighbors, keeping only the last digit: 1 2 0 2 0 → 3 2 2 2
Repeat until two digits are left; they are the percentage
FLAMES: cross out letters the names share, count the letters left, then count around F-L-A-M-E-S by that number, striking out where you land, until one letter remains

      How to use it

      1. Type the first name.
      2. Type the second name — order and capital letters do not matter.
      3. Read the score, the FLAMES result and the working behind them.

Why it is just for fun

The score depends only on spelling. Add a middle name or use a nickname and it changes completely, and common letters such as E and O decide most results. Two names say nothing about how two people get on. What you type stays on your device.

      The FLAMES game

F is Friends, L Lovers, A Affection, M Marriage, E Enemies and S Siblings. Romeo and Juliet share one E; the 9 letters left knock out A, F, L, S and M in turn, leaving E for Enemies — fair enough, given their families. Harry and Sally share an A and a Y, and the 6 letters left end on M for Marriage.

Playground versions differ: some read A as Adore or Admirers, and some count from where the last letter was struck. This one counts on from the gap, as described in the formula.

      Questions people ask

How does a love calculator work?

      This one counts the letters L, O, V, E and S in both names, then adds neighboring numbers, keeping the last digit, until two digits remain. Romeo and Juliet: 1 2 0 2 0 → 3 2 2 2 → 5 4 4 → 9 8, so 98%.

      Is a love calculator accurate?

No. It is a game based on how names are spelled, so it cannot measure anything about a relationship. Enjoy it, then ignore it.

Does the order of the names matter?

No. Letters from both names are counted together, so swapping them gives the same score and the same FLAMES result.
